Hugging Face
Best for: AI Assistant for people who want a checked, free option.
HuggingChat is Hugging Face's free chat interface, rebuilt in 2025 around Omni — a router that automatically picks which AI model answers your question. Behind one chat box sit more than a hundred open and hosted models from a dozen-plus providers, and the interface chooses between them instead of making you guess which one suits the task.
The practical effect is a single free assistant that is unusually hard to outgrow: coding questions, writing, research, and reasoning all get routed to whichever model handles them best, and you can see and steer which model is in use. Because Hugging Face is the home of open models, newer open releases tend to appear here early.
It fits people who want one free chat that samples the whole open-model ecosystem, tinkerers who want to compare models without juggling accounts, and anyone curious what the newest open releases feel like in practice.
To begin, open huggingface.co/chat and sign in with a free Hugging Face account — no credit card. Ask the same question twice with different models enabled to feel the differences.
The honest limits. Free usage carries daily caps that reset, and the strongest hosted models can be busy at peak times. The automatic routing is good, not perfect — occasionally the model picked is not the best match, and manually switching models takes a click. The original HuggingChat was retired in 2025 and replaced by this rebuilt version, so features and behaviour differ from older write-ups. Model quality varies as open models always do.
