Qwen Chat

Qwen Chat is the free hosted assistant from the Qwen team at Alibaba Cloud, used in a browser at chat.qwen.ai. You ask in plain language and it answers — drafting and editing text, explaining topics, working through reasoning and coding problems, and handling everyday questions across more than a hundred languages.

It runs on the Qwen3 model family, which is notable for being open-weight: the models are released under the permissive Apache 2.0 licence and hosted publicly, so developers can also download and run them independently. The family spans small dense models up to large Mixture-of-Experts models, and supports switching between a fast general chat mode and a slower thinking mode for reasoning, maths, and code.

It fits anyone who wants a capable, free assistant to try alongside the more familiar names — a genuine free ChatGPT alternative — and developers curious about strong open-weight models they can eventually self-host. Its multilingual strength makes it especially useful outside English.

To begin, open chat.qwen.ai, sign in, and type a request; switch to thinking mode when a task needs step-by-step reasoning rather than a quick answer.

The honest limits. Like every assistant, Qwen can be fluent and wrong at once, so anything load-bearing needs checking against a real source. Feature availability, usage limits, and the exact models offered in the hosted chat can vary by region and change over time, and the hosted service is operated by Alibaba Cloud — review its terms for how your inputs are handled.
